About Us
Blank Space Collective is a Buffalo-based nonprofit organization designed as a liberating, trauma-informed sanctuary where Black and POC women and femmes can take off their "masks," heal collectively, and build deep, lasting sisterhood. We exist to fiercely protect and completely realize the joy, safety, and collective liberation of our community.
Like many women of color, our founder often found herself searching for spaces to be valued as a whole human being—not just as an employee, a caregiver, a sister, or a daughter. Inspired by her mother’s legacy of finding local resources, like free music and dance lessons, and affordable avenues for exploration against steep financial odds, Blank Space Collective was born. We are here to continue that exact legacy: reaching beyond what is immediately in front of us, trying new things without fear, and expanding our horizons together.
Our mission is to cultivate a liberating sanctuary where Black and POC women and femmes dismantle barriers, heal collectively, and build sisterhood through trauma-informed spaces that empower them to learn new skills, rediscover passions, and boldly explore the world as their most authentic selves through mental health and physical wellness practices.
A world where the joy, safety, and collective liberation of Black and POC women and femmes are fiercely protected and completely realized—allowing them to live as their most authentic selves, heal in sisterhood, and navigate every space and passion entirely free from barriers.
Our Core Values
Radical Authenticity: We celebrate the freedom for every individual to show up as their full, unfiltered self, dismantling the pressure to perform or shrink in any space.
Radical Honesty: We commit to the brave practice of speaking our truths, even when they are uncomfortable. We value the "real talk" required to address our struggles, celebrate our wins, and hold one another accountable. By stripping away the pressure to "mask" our experiences, we create a foundation of trust where genuine healing can begin.
Collective Care (Sisterhood): We believe wellness is a shared journey. We prioritize mutual support, knowing that our collective healing is more powerful than solitary effort.
Equitable Exploration: We are dedicated to removing the barriers—financial, social, or historical—that have kept our community from accessing new activities and environments.
Expressive Liberation: We use creativity as a tool for healing, viewing art and movement as essential paths to mental and physical liberation.
Safety & Sanctuary: We commit to maintaining a physical and emotional refuge where vulnerability is respected and joy is intentionally protected.
Intergenerational Wisdom: We value the cycle of learning, where reinforcing old passions and teaching new ones connects our past, present, and future.
Designed for Your Safety & Comfort
We intentionally design our environments to meet your physical, emotional, and sensory needs:
Emotional Care: Heavy conversations happen here. We provide a trauma-informed "funcilitator" or trained mental health counselor at our events for immediate support.
Sensory Spaces: A dedicated decompression area is available if you experience sensory overload.
Breast Milk Expression: A private, comfortable space is always open for working mothers and caregivers.
ADA Accessibility: Every effort is made to provide ADA-friendly activities so all participants can join.
No Cellphone Policy: To protect your vulnerability, there is zero personal recording allowed. Focus entirely on your healing without the pressure of a camera.
